Mission Statement

We will bring the FUN back to barrel racing!

General Overview of CWP Guidelines

Cascade West Productions is a 5D Barrel Racing Organization. Designed BY barrel racers FOR barrel racers: CWP’s primary focus is on FAMILY, FUN & FAIRNESS!

The 2010 CWP Finals will be held September 10-12, 2010, at Strobel’s Arena in Scappoose, Oregon. The Finals will be open to anyone wishing to enter, however, average awards will only be given to CWP qualified members. In order to be a CWP qualified member and run for awards, you must fill out a CWP membership form. CWP Memberships are Horse/Rider combinations. Therefore, it is $25.00 for your first membership and additional memberships for additional horses are a reduced rate of $10.00 each.   Qualifying runs are counted on the rider not the horse so as long as a rider has 4 races him or herself for each horse signed up for CWP he/she can run all horses signed up.

i.e. Jane Doe and Smokey’s membership = $25.00, then Jane Doe can add her second horse, Black Beauty, for an additional $10.00. Jane Doe would then need to compete at 4 (FOUR) CWP prime (or co-sanctioned races by paying the co-sanctioning fee of $1.00 per run) on both Smokey and Black Beauty in order to qualify BOTH horses to compete at the CWP Finals for awards. (Jane Doe, can however, opt to run both horses at the Finals without qualifying with 4 races each, but she will not be eligible for awards). If during the course of the season, either Smokey or Black Beauty are sold or injured and cannot be competed on, Jane Doe has the option of substituting a horse. Vet slip or proof of sale slip must be presented to CWP to verify. Substitutions are permanent for the remainder of the season.  Jane Doe may run Smokey at 8 races throughout the season and then run both horses for average awards at finals as long as she has signed both horses up for CWP.

CWP Points Season for 2010 will begin November 1, 2009, and conclude on August 31, 2009. The 2010 CWP Points Season will begin on November 1st, 2009.   We will award the top 5 CWP Point Earners in each of the 5D’s.  And in the interest of equality, a 1D racer and a 5D racer will receive equal points for placing at a CWP race. Therefore, if you win 1st in the 1D, 2D, 3D, 4D or 5D at a CWP race, you receive 10 points, 2nd 9 points, 3rd 8 points, 4th 7 points, 5th 6 points, 6th 5 points, 7th 4 points, 8th 3 points, 9th 2 points, 10th 1 point.

All CWP Races counting for Points will be advertised a minimum of 2 weeks in advance on the CWP website (www.cascadewestproductions.org) in order to count for points! CWP can approve shorter notice races, but they will count as CWP Race Qualifiers ONLY! They will not count for CWP year-end points standings!

Amber Lee has graciously offered to keep track of all points
or the 2010 CWP Season and they will be updated continuously on the website courtesy of our amazing webmaster, Brandon Hull. In addition to current points standings, the CWP website will also feature race photos and other fun items, so check back often to stay in the loop!

The CWP Team is working VERY hard to insure the best possible value for barrel racers! We are a group of barrel racers working FOR barrel racers to provide optimal ground conditions, a fast and FRIENDLY office crew and a FAIR, FUN and FAMILY oriented setting to meet the wants/needs of our barrel racing extended family! We understand the value of the dollar. And in these tight economic times, we are determined to give the contestants the absolute MOST BANG FOR THE BUCK! We are a non-profit organization! Therefore, it truly is all about the barrel racer!

In the essence of keeping costs down and value up, CWP is committed to just that! No CWP Prime Race entry fee will exceed $45.00 without prior approval. And CWP is committed to putting the highest percentage back into the jackpot. Therefore, CWP Prime races will payout in a 5D format with 25% of entry fees and added money to the 1D, 22% to the 2D, 20% to the 3D, 18% to the 4D and 15% to the 5D.

CWP is a 5D Association with ½ second splits the entire way! We encourage contestants and horses of ALL levels to enjoy the atmosphere and overall experience of Cascade West Productions!

CWP will offer an Open 5D Class- Open to any contestant.

We also offer a Youth 5D- Class (open to any rider 17 years or younger. Eligibility is based on January 1st of the current year. If on January 1st, the youth is 17, they may finish the season in the youth class).

In addition, there is a Senior 5D Class- (open to any rider 45 years and older. Eligibility is based on birthdate. Once contestant reaches 45, they may enter the Senior Division).

Pee Wee Division- Open to contestants 10 years and under. Eligibility is based on January 1st of the current year. Pee wee racers that are able to compete in the Youth class MAY be asked to move out of the pee-wee class and into the Youth class. We understand there may be exceptions but we will ask the parents to consider the move if it appears applicable.

(exception if you are already entered in the Novice on day of race, you run a 1D or 2D time in the open, you are still eligible to run in the Novice that day only). Novice entries are not allowed to roll their time from another class. Those wishing to enter the Novice Class, must run in the Novice class at all CWP Prime races.

General Rules

1. The start/finish line and the barrel positions should be permanently marked and must remain the same throughout the entire event.

2. The pattern at any CWP race must meet the requirements below.

a) a minimum of 15 feet between each of the first two barrels and the side fence.
b) a minimum of 30 feet between the third barrel and the back fence.
c) a minimum of 30 feet between the time line and the first barrel.

3. Ground conditions
a) The ground conditions within the arena must remain consistent throughout the event. The ground around the barrels must be reworked and leveled after each 10 or fewer contestants have competed. An amount less than 10 may be set by the arena operator.
b) The preferred method of working the ground is with a ground tool pulled by some type of motor vehicle.

4. Any time a contestant crosses the starting line, time will begin.

5. A contestant will be given a "no time" for missing the pattern, unless they correct the pattern and don’t make any extra turns that are un-necessary.

6. A contestant will be disqualified for running out of turn. It is the contestant's responsibility to know his/her draw position. This also includes someone running multiple horses and they don’t run the horse in the proper position as listed on the draw.

8. A contestant will be given a "no time" for knocking over a barrel. A "no time" will also be given if a barrel is knocked over and it sets up again on either end. Touching a barrel, including keeping it from falling, is permitted without penalty.

9. A contestant will be given a no time if the horse or rider falls during the run in such a manner as to break the pattern, or if the rider falls off the horse.

10. If a barrel is moved off its marker during competition, the barrel must be reset prior to the next competitor's run.

11. Contestants may ride any horse, regardless of ownership, and may ride as many horses as they choose in a class.

12. Entries for a class will close when the first horse in that class runs, or at an earlier time as specified in race details.  Under no circumstances will entries be taken for a class after the first horse in that class has entered the arena, unless stated in race details that the entries will stay opened till a set time.  As in a week night race for example where entries are kept open until a specified time.  Check race details to find out a time when entries close.  If not specified it will be the understanding that entries close for the class when first horse runs.

13. At all CWP prime of co-sanctioned shows; the draw shall be done in a random manner. Examples: a random computer draw, shuffling entry forms, or drawing numbered chips. Riders with multiple horses must specify a horse with each entry. Each draw position assigned to such riders will be assigned to a specific horse, and the rider must ride the specified horse in the specified position. Under no circumstances should a contestant be allowed to pick out their draw position. Once set, the draw may not be changed, except to accommodate entries with the same horse or rider, or entries involving members of the same immediate family.  If for some reason you need to leave a race for a another commitment you must contact show management before the draw has been done to see if you can make arrangements.  If you do not make arrangements prior to the draw being done you won’t get special treatment.  It is up to show management to make arrangements with you about drawn positions.  If show management says no then their word is final.

Text Box: 7

14. Only one horse may be in the arena at any time during competition.  Unless for some reason the arena allows multiple horses to be in the arena at once as long as there is safe distance kept from the person that is running and the people that are waiting their turn.  If you are waiting in the arena for your turn during another run then you MUST stay to the sides and not near the start/finish line.  Any horse in the arena must have someone tending to it.  Under no circumstances will horses be tied along rails in the arena during an event.  The only way this is allowed is if there is a designated area for this.

15. Reruns shall be granted if the timer fails to work properly or if the barrels are not placed properly on their markers. Any penalty incurred on the original run shall not be applied against the rerun; however, any penalty occurring on the rerun shall result in a no time.  Contestant will be given the option of when they want their rerun.  Right away, end of race, before or after the next big drag, or at the time arranged with the rider and show management.

16. Contestants who are given a no-time, either for missing the pattern or knocking down a barrel, may complete the pattern. However, show management may, at its discretion, ask a rider who is taking excessive time to train to leave the arena immediately.  Under no circumstances are you allowed to circle a barrel or pole more then once during a run.  You are taking up the ground for the next contestant.
